This is a review of "Fallen" recorded by Vib Gyor. The review was written by Colin Burrill in 2006.
Fallen is Vib Gyor’s first ever single coming via their temporary record deal with Too Nice Recordings. The Leeds 5-piece are already rapidly building a huge fanbase and claiming many plaudits along the way with their brand of atmospheric rock. Comparisons with the likes of Radiohead, Coldplay, U2 and Sigur Ros seem more than justified, and they share that touch of mainstream appeal that is sure to serve them well.
The single “Fallen” is epic rock at its finest with crisp drums, bright scintillating guitars, enchanting vocals and a soaring melody that makes you feel like your hurtling through the air at high-speed. It’s an enjoyable rollercoaster ride that will inevitably lead to mainstream success.
The B-side “How long have I lost” begins as soft atmospheric ballad, with Dave Fendick's vocals as centrepiece. Halfway through the song the drums kick in, baring an uncanny resemblance to the drum rhythm on Coldplay’s “Fix You” guitars and keyboards inject a sense of urgency into the track before the track closes on a delicate note.
On the evidence of this single (and their collection of impressive unreleased titles) Vib Gyor won’t have too long to wait before they land an album deal with a label. This is a band with a great deal of potential, they have a sound that has global appeal. You only have to look at the examples set by the likes of U2, Radiohead, Coldplay and Sigur Ros whom have had colossal success on both sides of the Atlantic with this particular brand of rock. Providing the Leeds band remain determined and continue to evolve musically… the world is their oyster.
